Starting and killing a car with Can Bus

Postby Francescaniww » Tue Aug 11, 2015 10:02 pm

Does anyone know how the car listens fo the signal to start and what this signal may look like. I am trying to build a remote start kit using the can bus. I have a chevy colorado and my truck acutually does not have a starter wire just a wire that looks for a pattern then sends it to can bus. HELP. Thanks guys

All though there are international standards established for the CAN-Bus most of it doesn't extend past the emissions control portion. Your best bet would be to start by looking to see which CAN the start switch is hooked to and then use Martins CAN-Bus sniffer to see if you can figure out which message is being sent to start the vehicle. I can guarentee the signal that is used to start my Jeep is not the same as Chevy uses. Also dealing with a remote start you may be faced with trying to figure out a way to by-pass anti-theft measures.
